Red Racer Diner

Updated: May 25, 2023

1952-1962

The Red Racer was originally a BC Electric Street Car built in 1926. It was purchased in 1952 by Jack Lawrence for $250.00 (scrap iron price). It was shipped by rail to the Penticton yard, and then by logging truck to its building site. The car was lowered onto a foundation and the interior was redesigned and converted into a Diner, a small kitchen was added to the back of the car. In the 1950's this was considered way out of town.

The Diner was located on the west side of Main Street adjacent to Ellis Creek, this location is currently the site of Midas Muffler. In the 1950's this was considered way out of town. The Diner was operated until the early 1960's,when it was relocated to the Central Machine Shop's Yard on Dawson Street and later resold for its scrap iron value.
